Transnational Certification and Accreditation of eLearning Project Managers

Aims:

In this workshop, the transnational certification of eLearning project managers (Certified European eLearning Manager) will be presented and discussed on the basis of the Leonardo innovation transfer project "smectrans". Participants are invited to join the smectrans network, contribute to the development of the certificate, and include it into their own business or academic portfolio.

Content:

The smectrans project develops, based on the results of earlier EU projects, a certification package for eLearning managers and consultants. This includes:

• A standardised, transnational testing process which has been developed and is evaluated by partners from Liechtenstein, Germany, Denmark, Romania and Greece covering a wide range of competencies and experieces and representing very diverse business and educational environments
• A preparatory online course that uses eLearning to show the didactic and procedural opportunities of Web-based or Web-supported vocational training
• A business model including product, process, quality and market management

The workshop will discuss the following issues:

• Models & formats of online testing of vocational competencies,
• Principles of central & communal knowledge & quality management for transnational web-based or blended training,
• Testing & accreditation procedures & systems
• Business & marketing strategies.

Target group:

• Companies & industrial associations interested in developing their or their clients` skills in implementing and makting good use of eLearning
• Training & educational institutions who are interesting in offering the certificate and the supporting services in their markets
• Training & eLearning consultants interested in extending their service portfolio
• Scientists & researchers interested in contributing to the development of transnational certification formats and principles in the field of eLearnng management

Knowledge expected of participants:

No special knowledge is needed. Experience in eLearning project management is an advantage.

Workshop activities:

eLearning materials as well as educational, procedural and business strategies around the general topic of transnational certification will be presented by the project coordinator. Participants will be invited to develop the strategies and methods further in view of their own business or educational environments. Interested participants may join the network and get involved in developing the targeted educational & business objectives accordig to their special needs.

The Instructor:

After studying in Germany, England and the USA, Dr. Dietmar Treichel worked as professor and dean at Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany and Austria from 1986 until 2002. From 2002, he worked as an eLearning consultant at universities (e.g. Vienna), companies (e.g. Hugo Boss) and public organisations (e.g. the German Pension Authorities). Since 2004, he has also been coordinating Leonardo projects with a focus on eLearning project management, involving 9 countries. In 2006, he became one of the directors of the IKF (www.ikf.ch), one of the largest providers of eLearning and knowledge management education at master`s level, based in Lucerne, Switzerland.
